Alive

Was doing really well with cutting out wheat. I was.

And then, had a first date. That involved beer and yummy sandwich/bar food.

Worked at another facility Friday an Saturday, an hour+ from home, so food wasn’t planned. This whole week has been covered in, smothered by, or surrounded by wheat and other junk.

BUT, that was the best first date I think I’ve ever had. We met, started talking, outlasted our waitress, and next thing I knew, 5.5 hours had passed and I had to go meet a friend for another painting thing. I’m pretty sure we could have closed the place down just talking.

He works nights, I work days. So we get to talk while I’m getting up and then as he is. But conversation is so incredibly easy, it’s amazing.

Just wanted to make sure I could still post. :)

Ironman Texas

I had never spectated a race until yesterday.

I watched finishers on both sides of the line - as they crossed, looking strong and amazing. And as the finish line volunteers led them away - wobbly, dehydrated, emotional, and even more amazing.

I watched grown men find their spouses and sob such relief, such disbelief, such raw emotion that it made me and the volunteers with them tear up.

Whether they finished or not, in my eyes, they are ALL Ironmen.

Maybe someday.

Ok, Academic followers

Is there any benefit to being in 2 different honor societies at the same time?

I’m already a member of Alpha Phi Sigma which is the national honor society for criminal justice. I received an invitation today to join Phi Kappa Phi which is multidisciplinary and also national.

Now, I know it might help if I was going into a PhD program, but does it really make a difference gor resumes and such?

Help!

Going to lose my mind

It’s May 7th.

We already knew that we at work were going to have to spend May 31 - June 10th at a sister hospital helping with a computer system change over. We go live in August.

Our system has recently been sold. We found out today, right before lunch, that the new owners want system wide inventories done before the hand over. Oh yeah. That’s June 3rd.

So. Between now and the end of the month I’ve got to prepare for an inventory we didn’t know we were going to have to have, prepare to spend a week + in another hospital, work on my thesis, and try not to loose my mind.

Thank god vacation is June 16th.

Just Keep Spinning: A Love Story → erinen31.tumblr.com

I first met Kevin Healy at a coffee shop in January of 2009. Our mutual friend, JR, who was the manager of the coffee shop, introduced us. Since I was on my way out, not much happened between us that day other than “hi, nice to meet you”. I really don’t remember much else.

The following month, I…

Thesis stuff

So, yeah. The semester is almost over and theoretically I was supposed to be defending my prospectus by now.

Yeah, not so much.

My chair wasn’t getting back to me very quickly or really providing much guidance at all. Then, one day, I get an email saying she’s asked another committee member to take over.

Ok, that’s fine. I understand you’re busy - you ARE the department chair, too. Lets just get this show on the road. I would REALLY like to be done in December.

So, meet with the new chair who gives me the run down on how “we” are going to do this.

It took a week to just finish the IRB application, do the letter of consent for adults, format the survey instrument like she wants, take the course on protection of human subjects, and get it all to her with the revisions she wants.

Holy crap. I’ve gotten more accomplished this week than I did the whole rest of the semester.

Packet will be submitted to the IRB on Monday and we’ll hear something about it by the end of the month.

Kill me now.

Swam yesterday. Not far, just needed to get my feet wet.

Thinking of taking the hour long Zumba class at 4:30. It’s been a long time since I’ve done any dancing.

I spent a lot of time today thinking about last night’s date. This guy is awesome. He really is. He’s funny and smart and creative and he’s got his shit together. And I got home last night and he sent me a nice text and… Nope. Didn’t feel it. I just… Didn’t.

And then I thought about Saturday…

There is no such thing as too picky when it comes to the person you’ll be spending the rest of your life with. Never settle.

I haven’t read anything so true in a long time.
